Parts and Suppliers

Rob Joy at Automotive Parts Limited in Kent, UK is both helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to old Bedfords. His website has an online shop and he is constantly adding useful content such as parts lists too. You can find it HERE .

There is a chap, whose name I'm afraid I don't know, in Turkey selling a lot of TK spares. His prices are keen and service good. The parts I have bought have all appeared to be genuine NOS. His user name is btu34 and he has an eBay store here

I am accumulating parts, mostly off eBay for things I know need replacing or repair. These are mostly plastic and rubber items.

  1. Do you have any suggestions as to where we can get hold of a backplate?

    1. I guess a wreckers yard would be best for that. Different models have different axles so I'm guessing the back-plates vary too. Where in the world are you?

  2. Hi Myles,
I am about to buy a TK Bedford it is a late 1980 one (built in Australia with 5 litre V8) and it has Air over Hydraulic brakes, I have never bled a system like this and was wondering if you have the correct procedure? my truck has perished reservoirs that will need replacing (and bleed) before I can drive it home

  3. Hi Matthew

I moved my restiration stuff here -

    http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/bedford-tk.43480/

    if your're interested.

Bleeding the brakes, I don't have a workshop manual but what I did was this (and it worked very well).

    For each end -

    1. Fill the reservoir to the top
    2. Open the bleed on the furthest wheel cylinder
    3. Wait until fluid flows without bubbles
    3. Close bleed
    4. Repeat for the nearer wheel cylinder

I didn't do any pumping of the pedal etc.

It is quite slow doing it this way, probably took about 10-20 minutes but the brakes were certainly good enough to drive the truck. You could speed the process up with one of those tools that pressurises the reservoir slightly.

    Hope this helps

    1. If you are just replacing the reservoirs you probably won't need to bleed the brakes at all (if they are working anyway). Just screw on the new reservoirs and refill.
